Our Focus
Bystander CPR Initiative
Every year, over twenty million lives are tragically lost worldwide due to cardiovascular diseases, and Africa bears the highest burden of mortality in this regard. What makes these losses even more heartbreaking is that they are entirely preventable, often resulting from a lack of education and accessibility.
At the heart of our mission lies a simple yet profound truth: lives can be saved through education and action. Imagine a world where every individual is equipped with the knowledge and skills to step in during emergencies, providing a lifeline until professional help arrives. This is the essence of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), a technique that has the potential to transform the outcomes of life-threatening situations.
CPR isn’t just a skill; it’s a beacon of hope. A timely response from a bystander can make all the difference, turning an emergency into an opportunity for survival. By maintaining a continuous flow of oxygen to vital organs, especially the brain, CPR sustains life until the heart regains its natural rhythm.
Elijeko Foundation embarked on its journey in Ghana, driven by the belief that change starts at the grassroots. In collaboration with the National Ambulance Service, we conceived, launched, and scaled the revolutionary Bystander CPR Initiative. This initiative is a beacon of empowerment, bringing critical pre-hospital emergency care techniques like CPR to the doorsteps of Ghanaians, particularly those residing in remote and underserved communities.
Since January 2023, we have trained over 1,000 individuals, ranging from healthcare professionals to those outside the medical field. We take immense pride in our contribution to building a network of capable lifesavers across Ghana.
A pivotal component of our efforts is the development of the Bystander CPR training video. This comprehensive resource encapsulates our collective knowledge and experience, serving as a guiding light for institutions throughout Africa. Its widespread adoption underscores the universal need for accessible and effective CPR training.
As we stand on the cusp of a new era in healthcare, we invite you to join hands with us. Let us bridge the gap between ignorance and knowledge, despair and hope, by empowering communities with the lifesaving skills they deserve. Together, we can ensure that no life is lost needlessly, and that every bystander becomes a beacon of life in times of crisis.
